Opportunity
- Wataneya Company (AKA The National Company Of Road Construction, Development & Management), Under the Ministry of Defense in Egypt, due to their high quality implementation, has been lately responsible for the Construction & Maintenance of all the new High Roads & Toll stations in Egypt.
- On the expansion of the Real Estate Sector & the general direction of taking the housing congestion outside of Cairo as the center of population, it was a goal to expand residence to outer suburbs, to build new cities that could take congestion out of the capital.
- The government found that creating toll stations on high roads would be a burden on these new gated communities’ dwellers, having to pay every time they cross the toll station to get back home from their work just before the toll station
- So, the solution was to create some kind of reduced-price membership for these dwellers & to take off their frequent congestion time through the toll station, so the best solution was to use RFID Tags.
Solution
- Wataneya chose OGTECH to implement their solution, ordering 400,000 Windshield tags.

- As a company of a military background, Wataneya was most focused on Quality, Price & speed of delivery, and MetalCraft more than fulfilled the 3 aspects.
- First, regarding the Quality, Upon proposal, Wataneya found Metalcraft’s reputation & the tag specs very promising, especially since the tags do not need any special storage requirements & their life expectancy was between 10-15 years, a near lifetime expiry! Then, During the demo & upon testing, they were very delighted, when they found the tags performing very well technically & according to their needed standards, and consequently, the price was very reasonable for the quality they saw, that they even replaced another supplier they used to deal with, with Metalcraft, a clear statement of the client’s satisfaction!
- As for the fast delivery, Metalcraft was very responsive, in shortening their delivery time, and were able to fast deliver the first batch of the tags as requested by Wataneya.
Result
- The solution dramatically shortened the wait time at the toll station, revolutionized the speed of flow, and solved the inconvenience of the toll station for the surrounding residents.
- The residents of the gated communities surrounding the toll station constituted a big percentage of the daily toll station traffic, and by ensuring this big percentage was free flowing, with no need to get out the money, give it to the collector, wait for the ticket, wait to take it then leave, shortened this time to nearly nothing, and minimized it to just passing through the gate, where the RFID tag is read from a large distance, allowing the resident to enter without all this hassle,& consequently speeding the entry of non-residents as well, increasing the overall traffic passage speed of the toll station & raising its efficiency & effectiveness.
- Also, besides the obvious advantages of the RFID tags for all parties involved, the tags were also a revenue income for the station, as they sell it with a profit margin to these residents.
